To make any hidden layer visible, press the sunken square icon next to the layer in the Layers panel. You’ll also need to make sure that all hidden layers are visible-these will otherwise be ignored and removed. Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (Mac OS) the Create A New Layer button or New Group button in the Layers panel to display the New Layer dialog box and set layer options. Choose New Layer or New Group from the Layers panel menu. Choose Layer > New > Layer or choose Layer > New > Group. To do so, make sure the Layers panel is visible by pressing F7 or clicking Windows > Layers. To create a new layer or group using default options, click the Create A New Layer button or New Group button in the Layers panel. Photoshop will do this automatically if you save your image as a PNG or JPG file, but if you want to do it manually, you can. Using layers makes it easier to edit your image, but if you prefer, you can merge all of your layers together. RELATED: What's the Difference Between JPG, PNG, and GIF? Photoshop files in the PSD format support layers, but other image types like JPG or PNG do not. Only certain types of image files allow you to use layers. You can also press the Shift + Ctrl + E keys on your keyboard to quickly perform this type of layer merge.
